Steve Lopez’s practice focuses primarily in three areas: estate and business succession planning, estate and trust administration, and gift, estate and trust-related tax controversy work.
Steve assists individuals and families in developing and implementing strategies to achieve their personal estate, charitable and business succession planning objectives in a tax-efficient manner. He represents a wide variety of individual clients, including business executives, doctors, lawyers, government professionals, individuals and families for whom a significant portion of their net worth consists of interests in privately-held businesses, and others. A key aspect of his practice involves advising owners of closely-held businesses in transferring the business to members of younger generations in a manner that achieves their desired business succession objectives in a tax-favorable manner. He has substantial experience in the drafting of wills, trust agreements, powers of attorney, partnership agreements, and restrictive stock ownership agreements.
Steve also advises and assists trustees in the day-to-day administration of trusts and executors in probating estates, providing advice regarding fiduciary and income and estate tax issues, as well as the myriad other administrative issues that regularly arise in connection with trusts and estates.
